Things I Love Thursday: My Purple Pens

I’ve always had a “thing” for office supplies.  Paper.  File folders.  Paper Clips. Ink pens.  I enjoy writing – I like good paper – and I really love good pens.

Through the years, in a variety of office settings and personal journaling at home – I’ve learned what I like and what I don’t like.  That’s because I’ve been a major contributor to the office supply industry.

I quickly discovered I’m not a huge fan of many gel pens – mostly because they skip a lot for me.

I like a fine point, but for serious writing, find that a medium point works best.

I love using blue ink – especially if I can find a blue-black ink.

But my favorite color to write in is PURPLE.  I discovered this about a year ago – on a whim bought a 2 pack of purple pens – and I was immediately hooked.

Being a color-coder for many years – I enjoy color in my files and systems.  Purple pens just make me happy.  And all of a sudden, I’ve realized how much I really like PURPLE.

Enter Pentel’s EnerGel .7mm ball pen.  It is a gel pen, but doesn’t write like a gel pen.  No skipping.  It offers a lovely shade of violet and I have several of them.  I’ve actually used many until they completely ran out of ink!

One of my all time favorite ink pens ever has been the uni-ball Signo 207 retractable medium point gel pen.  Again – it’s a serious improvement on gel pens. I used to use them at work and loved both the blank & blue inks.  Then I discovered the purple version – and Vóila!  It’s one I love to use for journaling or writing in notecards.    Smooth flowing ink in a darker shade of purple.  Elegant!

But my favorite PURPLE ink pen is the uni-ball Vision Needle micropoint rollerball pen.  It is comfortably light in my hand, and flows so smoothly I can write quickly or slowly and get the same quality.  I like that.  I don’t often find a fine or even microfine pen that I like to use, but this quickly became my favorite and I will probably have to buy another (or case of them) soon.

As I journal – I use my purple pens.  As I make lists or jot down notes – I use my purple pens.  As I’m writing out my Christmas cards, I’ll be using my purple pens.   It’s become my signature color and these pens are definitely some Thing I Love every day!

  1. It totally cracks me up that you know this much about pens. I just grab any old thing and write. I will say I prefer black over blue ink but that is about all the thought I have given it. I love purple though so maybe I will start writing in it :)

  2. I am right there with you on the office supplies obsession! I even color code my pens with my calander – every group of things (appts, birthdays, vacation, etc) everything has a distinctive color! Purple represents Family Game night! <3 Purple! As far as pen's go – anything colorful and smooth!
