Need Preschool Snack Ideas?
By CoffeeMom | October 23, 2009
Sometimes it’s hard to find a snack that your preschooler will eat that is both healthy and satisfying. Preschoolers can be picky, so it’s easy to settle for something that may not be good for them, and when you’re tired or in a rush – great ideas aren’t always at hand!
Quick Suggestions
- Apples & Peanut Butter
- Wheat Crackers & Thinly Sliced Cheese
- Microwave Popcorn - occasionally sprinkle a little bit of cinnamon & sugar on top for a little something sweet
- Yogurt & Granola - here’s a homemade granola recipe
- Fruit Salad – for some reason, kids like the idea of fruit “salad” so chunking up some fruits and tossing them together with a little flaked coconut and a drizzle of honey does wonders!
Other Ideas
Morning Picnic. Having a mid-morning snack can keep kids more even keeled. This is a great time to serve fruit salad and muffins!
Afternoon Tea. You can make this a once a week thing or save it for special occasions. Use pretty cups (play princess tea sets that have been washed work perfectly for our house!) and serve a fruity tea (raspberry, orange, etc.) or a dessert tea (white chocolate moose, cookies & cream, etc. ***) and serve with a plate of little sandwiches (PB&J on white is fine!) with the crusts removed, or even cookies.
School Snacks. If you need to supply snacks for school, there are so many products packaged now, you’ve got a vast array to choose from:
- 100 calorie packs
- string cheese
- raisins
- granola bars
- yogurt tubes
- crackers & cheese or peanut butter
- granola packs
- sun chips
I always try to pair a protein with a fruit or carb to keep things balanced!

When my older children were in Preschool I would have to come up with a snack for the whole class. I liked to use cupcake papers and fill them with yogurt covered raisins, animal cookies, or what ever I could find. The kids loved it and it was easy! I would also get juice and little paper cups. I hope this helps!

Carrie – that’s a great idea! The cupcake papers probably made it feel “special” even if was the same kind of treat they usually had! Great suggestion!
