Do You Want to Work from Home?

By CoffeeMom | October 22, 2009

Are you looking for ways to earn money at home? To supplement your family’s income? So you can stay home with your children? Whether you want to work part-time or full-time, there are many opportunities available. These are some highly reputable resources to consider.

Because I looked for a long time to work full-time at home and help provide for our family financially, I’ve researched and found more resources than I could really list on one page. In fact, I’ve read about many programs offering moms a way to earn income at home. Some I didn’t like, Some just weren’t my style, and I found some that I’m starting to put into practice. I’m going to make some recommendations from what I have found to be reliable sources.

Disclaimer: Please note, however, that there IS no guarantee of earned income to you, either implied or promised by me, Coffee Mom, or this blogsite. I can only make recommendations for programs developed by others who have been successful in their ventures.

Moms Talk Network

Having spent some dedicated time as an intern with Kelly McCausey, I can absolutely give Moms Talk Network high marks!

Moms Talk Network has a huge wealth of information available to moms who want to work from home. I have joined their affiliate program (which means I earn commissions on recommended product purchases), and have purchased and obtained many of their products for my own use. I highly recommend their products as they are easy to read an understand and are insightful, instructional, and even inspirational! If you don’t know where to start, I highly recommend Find the Time Mama. It’s a free resource that can help you think in more practical ways about how to manage your time effectively.

Here are other recommended that can help you learn more about a business path you might already be interested in, as well as one you may not have considered!

Direct Sales Business

Bookkeeping Business

Greeting Card Business

Internet Research Business

Proofreading / Editing Business

Many women are able to transition from a full-time job as an administrative assistant to being a Virtual Assistant. Many women become Virtual Assistants with no experience at all.  The great thing about being a Virtual Assistant (according to their testimonies) is that they get to set their own hours, set their own wage, and continue the same kind of work that many professionals and online businesses are looking for! This guide can show you how to do that for yourself.

Another venture many people seek to do from home is Transcription. The problem is, there are many scams out there and lots of warnings about what to avoid. This guide to starting your own Transcription service, may be the ticket to helping you discover your own entreprenurial spirit!

Honestly, there are so many other resources available at Moms Talk Network – I highly recommend you to visit their site, check out their products and see what opportunities may work for you!

Affiliate Programs

Affiliate Programs offer another way to earn income in a more passive manner. Direct Sales usually requires some aggressive work at times – much time away from home (usually), managing inventory, or time spent online updating sales pages and products, etc.

Affiliate programs, on the other hand, allow you to earn commission for sales of products created by someone else. It’s a little hard to recommend products you know nothing about, so it’s probably not a great idea to select something simply for the % commission you can earn. There are so many affiliate programs available, you can probably find something that will work for you, fit with your life and the visitors to your blog or website.

The first step to becoming an affiliate is having a website or blog that you manage.

Secondly, find products that you can comfortably make recommendations for – or would like to make recommendations for – and check out their affiliate program.

Honestly, I can’t tell you about all of the affiliate programs in existence, but I can tell you about some affiliate programs for products you might like. You can get an idea about the products and find out about commissions and decide if this kind of business venture is for you!:

Moms Talk Network

Just Add Sweatwith products to help anyone start a Ghostwriting business, How to Start a Profitable Recipe Blog, and more.

Alyssa’s Affiliates – Alyssa Avant is a Christian writer and speaker who has great products for Moms-daughters, writing, Christian PLR articles, and more. Her Christian Charm School leader guide and student workbooks are a huge hit with anyone who works with tweens & teens, or parents who want to instill some good ol’ manners in their daughters. Alyssa is a good friend and I can recommend any of her products with great confidence and admiration!

Amazon. I probably don’t have to explain why this particular affiliate program could be of benefit. With the thousands of products for sale on Amazon, you could find something for just about anybody. A favorite book you’re reading again, a new book you want to read, organizational products, software, etc… At The Queen Mommy’s Book Nook, I prefer to just list books for now – books I’ve read, books I’m reading, or books on my wish list…

WAHM Business Opportunities

I’ve investigated multiple home based opportunities and have found both frustrating scams and genuine life changing opportunities. I’ve included the opportunities I’m working with, as well as others that also had a lot to offer.

Teaporia – If you, like me, enjoy tea – this might be the company for you.   I love Tea and everything associated with celebrating and enjoying tea, the formality of tea parties, and the comfort of tea rooms… Teapots, teacups & saucers, lacy-girly STUFF and yummy treats. Tea time for me represents a “happy place.” I always envision a setting similar to “Somewhere in Time.” Teaporia is a business I can work with – both as a consultant and a customer!

Once Upon A Family – Jen Smith is a Team Leader and has a really informative website with some incredible products – I’m subscribed to her newsletter, and hope to purchase some products this year. Once Upon a Family is about creating & recording family traditions – right up my alley – and their products are really beautiful! Whether you want to work from home or just want to start creating some beautiful family memories – this is a website to visit!!!

Gurrlie Girl - Oooooh – totally cute, totally fun, and totally GIRLY!!! This is a Christian jewelry company that makes some really adorable stuff. When my daughters saw the magazine they wanted something on every page (OF COURSE). Somewhat similar to other jewelry sales companies, the difference is you are selling jewelry with Christian symbols, Scripture, and special meaning. Jenni was so very friendly and answered all my questions. My only concern was that I’d spend way more than I ever earned! LOL

Watkins – If you enjoy cooking or baking – and if you have never tried any Watkins products – YOU SHOULD!!! I got in touch with Elesia in early December and got a sample of Watkins cinnamon. There is NOTHING else like Watkins cinnamon. It is so clean and fresh tasting – you have to try it to understand how different it is from cinnamon you might find in a grocery store. AND their flavoring extracts are unbelievable. They have hundreds of spices, flavorings, and mixes available – and personal & home care products that are natural and eco-friendly, too!!!

WAHM Networking & Resources

CWAHM – Christian Work at Home Mom is a really great resource – good newsletters, advertising opportunities, networking. HIGHLY recommended! (CWAHM Owner Jill Hart co-authored So You Want to Be A Work At Home Mom with Diana Ennen – another terrific resource for getting started!)

HBRD – Home Business Resource Directory is another networking site with much to offer. A community for interactive networking, a great blog with articles and resources – and much, much more! When you join the forum, let them know Debbie Taylor sent you!

Mom2Moma fantastic WAHM networking site. If you want ideas, advice, or even just some socializing – this is a really friendly site with lots of subgroups for all kinds of WAHMs, and a Yahoo! group for advertising!

NAHBM - the National Association of Home-Based Business Moms offers a wealth of business resources for the WAHM! Free or Premium memberships are available – and I’ve already tapped into a couple of things that have sharpened my focus in both ministry & business!

WAHM Articles – I doubt you could read every single article on this site – but they are well organized so you can search for topics based on your interests and preferences. You’ll find advice from successful business women, a free newsletter, a forum for interaction, ghostwriting services, and much more.

Is there something specific you are looking for to work from Home in an area or career that isn’t listed here? Leave a comment or contact me via my contact page and I’ll see what I can find.
