7 Razor Burn Prevention Tips

By Lara | August 8, 2008

If you are a woman and you most likely shave your legs and under arms. At least the women I know do! So, this is for those who shave. Anyone who has been shaving for a for a bit has probably experienced the painful side of shaving…razor burn. Let me try and help…

7 tips to help prevent razor burn when you shave

  1. Never, I repeat NEVER shave dry skin. Major OUCH factor. (you can try an electric razor for a smooth and even result that requires no wetness)
  2. Make sure the razor you use has a sharp blade and has not been over used.
  3. Suds up the area with soap or shaving cream really well.
  4. Try not to shave the same spot over and over. If your razor is sharp once or twice should do the trick.
  5. Shave in the direction of the hair growth.
  6. Do not press hard. Press the razor lightly against the skin.
  7. Apply a nice scented moisturizer after shaving.

The skin irritation caused by razor burn is because the top layer of skin has been peeled off. OUCH! If you do get razor burn, apply an ice cube to the area for a few minutes at a time. You could even try an aloe based gel. Like the kind you use for a sunburn. Although you will still have discomfort, you will find SOME relief.

I wish you razor burn free shaving! :)

Great tips! And if you do end up with razor burn anyway, the best thing I’ve found is to rub a couple of drops of honey into your hands (mix with a few drops of warm water if you need to) and rub this into your wet, razon-burned legs as soon as you step out of the shower!

Something I learned recently was to use a bit of hair conditioner as a sort of shaving lotion. It really has made my skin surface smoother as I’m shaving, and my skin feels conditioned without having to buy any extra products for the shower!

I also use hair conditioner! It is so great! I wish I have always used it. I do not have razor burn or dry skin anymore! I highly encourage all to try it! You won’t be sorry! I use suave coconut! It is cheap and does a great job!
